Competitive Program FAQ's
When does a competitive team’s season start and what is
the commitment level expected of a competitive player?
Competitive soccer has become a year round sport for the serious player, but most younger teams (U7—U13) begin their season in May and continue through January or February depending on whether or not their team is competing in State Cup. Most teams will participate in 2-3 tournaments
during the summer, Presidio gaming league during the fall, post-season tournaments in December and January and State Cup in January and February. Players at all levels are expected to attend practices and participate in tournaments and league play.
What kind of financial assistance is available to players
in the Sharks competitive program?
Financial assistance is available to those players who qualify based on need and other criteria as established by the League Board. All players who want to be considered must apply using the Financial Assistance application that is available from the League Financial Director. When applying, all required documentation must be filled out and returned in by the deadline in order to be considered for a scholarship.
What does the Sharks program do for their older players
who are interested in attending college?
The Sharks has a Leadership program that is introduced to players at the U15 age group. As a part of this program players and parents are counseled about the steps necessary for getting exposure to college coaches, what is required to play soccer in college, the importance of good grades and
test scores and how to go about choosing a college. It is geared for the potential college player, but is also helpful to all students who want to go to college and want to know what to expect. Players are introduced to the process through a panel presentation that includes college coaches from different levels and both men’s and women’s programs.
